TORONTO, ON… Luke McMaster is set to release Time an EP via Virgin Music, on October 15, containing five original songs, recorded in 2008 and never-released. The first single “Running” and with accompanying video to follow next week. McMaster also is the producer of the album along with award-winning Canadian composer/producer Greg Johnston.

In 2008, McMaster reintroduced classical soul and Motown-inspired music into these new tracks. Luke and long-time friend and producer/co-writer Greg Johnston poured their hearts into the Time EP, but when McMaster presented it to publishers and his label, nobody was interested. "They were looking for pop music," says Luke. "They wanted more McMaster & James, but that wasn't who I was anymore."

"I’ve spent my entire career singing soul, which is what I love to sing...this music I believe is timeless.” Says McMaster.

Time is about rediscovery, loss and gratitude. Finding the time was difficult before this worldwide Covid-19 Pandemic for so many things he says. We’ve been forced to slow down, appreciate what’s around us and our longing for the past is showing up everywhere now...from our taste, our memories, our relationships, some shattered and some now mended, are all testing us. What is ultimately important now and what do we want to show people about ourselves? People I know are hiding away at home and being anti-social, others are showing more of their emotional selves. We are being shaken to our core and this is what time shows us. The story beginning, happening and continuing.”

Timing is everything, and sometimes you just have to wait it out. Says McMaster. Like many, lockdown downtime became a time to do a little housecleaning, and that's when he came across this forgotten project that fell through the cracks years ago.

His creative partnership with Johnston survived and thrived, and McMaster was proven right about the audience for soul music. 2008 just wasn't the time for Time. "Thank God that we didn't put it out before," says McMaster. "I'm a different kind of artist now, in a world where you can release music you believe in on your own. Back then, you were stuck in what the label wanted from you."

That was before McMaster became the new champion of blue-eyed soul in Canada. The hit songwriter (Rihanna, Nick Lachey) crafted brand-new treasures in that classic sound with legends Lamont Dozier of Motown and Rascal's founder Felix Cavaliere on the Icons Of Soul album in 2018. He celebrated the writer of "My Girl" and "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" on 2020's Songs Of Smokey. Smokey Robinson said “Check out @lukemcmaster’s cover of my song Ooh Baby Baby, adding, “Amazing job, Luke!” to his 1 million followers.

And now is the time for Luke McMaster's hot new single, "Running," from his forthcoming album, Time. released on September 17, 2021.

“Time is a slow burn, McMaster unveiling his silky falsetto over a rich groove and layers of irresistible harmonies. It may have been recorded in 2008, but its timeless, classic sound is perfect right now. The time is finally right for Luke McMaster's Time.” --Bob Mersereau

“New songs blend in perfectly with the charming covers... McMaster’s originals have the capacity to stand toe to toe with some memorable classic tracks and you won’t know the difference between the two.” --Press Plus 1

###

About Luke McMaster

Luke’s signature pop sound fuses early soul with contemporary R&B in the vein of throwback artists like Chromeo, Michael Bublé and Maroon 5. McMaster has been thrilling audiences with his unmistakable, soulful tenor since his early days on the music scene as one half of the gold-selling Canadian pop duo, McMaster & James. He made his first big mark as a solo artist in 2013 with his hit song "Good Morning Beautiful", co-written with multi-Platinum American and Grammy-nominated recording artist, Jim Brickman, which charted #3 on Billboard AC while remaining top 20 for 15 weeks. That same year Luke was named BellMedia “Emerging Artist” for “Good Morning Beautiful”.

As a songwriter, McMaster has multiple credits for notable artists such as Rihanna, Nick Lachey (98 Degrees), Jesse Labelle, Eva Avila and Marc Jordan, with numerous placements and projects for film and TV.

I've been putting producing weekly live streams. It started as a way to continue to perform when everything got shut down and turned into so much more. It became the light in my week and an opportunity to connect with many of you on a really personal level. I learned a lot over the course of 80+ streams and now I'm so excited to share my first acoustic live album with all of you! Stream it now on your favourite service: https://smarturl.it/livewithlukev1

Thanks for streaming & sharing!

In the meantime, big thanks to Todd for reviewing my new Christmas album "Chrismtas Present".

“Christmas Present” gives us the warmth and timelessness that we love about great Christmas albums. McMaster’s vocals are soulful and the perfect modern sound for these Motown reimaginings. I highly recommend adding “Christmas Present” to your playlist.

Neo soul music phenomenon Luke McMaster is back for the holiday season, bringing a gift of soulful holiday cheer. Set for release on October 16th,Christmas Present delivers a sleigh full of original songs alongside time-honored Christmas classics.

“Would it still be Christmas if we couldn’t be together?” McMaster sings in the album’s title track, expressing gratitude for the gift of cherished time spent with loved ones. It’s a sentiment many are feeling deeply these days, and McMaster gives everyone room to reflect as well as reason to celebrate.

On songs ranging from “This Christmas” and “Let It Snow” to “Silver Bells,” McMaster presents well-worn classics with a soulful spin. He delivers the hit “Wonderful Christmastime” in a laid-back fashion that invites listeners to kick back and lift a glass. Meanwhile, his upbeat “Christmas Must Be Tonight” sets a joyous tone for a tale of the very first Christmas. The album closes with McMaster’s stirring take on Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas” — a song that resonates deeply during a year that’s been a challenging one for many.

The upcoming album's lead singles, "Christmas Present" and "Christmas Must Be Tonight" are both available now on all digital streaming platforms.

McMaster, who kicked off his career as one half of the duo McMaster & James, went solo in 2002, shifting his focus to songwriting and collaborating with artists such as Rihanna, Nick Lachey, Nick Carter, and Kalan Porter. He recorded several EPs and albums, including Time in 2008, as well as 2013’s All Roads. The latter album featured the hit “Good Morning, Beautiful;” recorded with Grammy-nominated pianist Jim Brickman, the song peaked on the US Billboard AC Radio charts at #3. McMaster went on to release Heart of Soul in 2014 and 2016’s Trending.

Early in 2020, McMaster released Songs of Smokey, an homage to the soul legend who has been influential in his own career. Each of McMaster’s solo projects features his modern twist on the classic Motown sound. Set for release on Green Hill Productions, Christmas Present is no exception, delivering a lineup of songs that’s guaranteed to keep the holidays warm, lively, and bright.

Canadian singer-songwriter Luke McMaster is said to have mastered “the sound that has become one of the most significant musical accomplishments and stunning success stories of the 20th century.” His stunning R&B/soul concert at Creekside Theatre in Lake Country could have been labelled a tribute or nostalgia performance. It was anything but.

Consider his history.

McMaster has recorded a succession of EPs and albums (2008’s Time EP, 2013’s All Roads, Heart of Soul from 2014 and 2016’s Trending) that contained both originals and sensual interpretations of such favourites as Stevie Wonder’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours), Roberta Flack’s Feel Like Makin’ Love and the Bee Gees’ How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.

The final piece to the puzzle was his collaboration with Motown’s legendary Lamont Dozier, writer/producer of 54 No. 1 hits and Rascals’ founder Felix Cavaliere.

Excerpt from The Kelowna Daily Courier

It’s been said what is old is new again.

So it should come as no surprise that Luke McMaster has produced a new album called Icons of Soul, Vol 1, thanks to two R&B masters.

The Canadian singer-songwriter is best known for Good Morning, Beautiful, his 2013 Top 3 Billboard AC smash hit with new age pianist, Jim Brickman, and his impressive Canadian gold album run as a duo with Rob James in McMaster & James (Thank You, Love Wins Everytime). Reviewers often referrred to the latter as the ‘Canadian Hall & Oates.’

McMasters’ latest album is the result of his recent collaboration with Motown’s legendary Lamont Dozier, writer/producer of 54 no. 1 hits (Love Is Like A Heat Wave, I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) and You Can’t Hurry Love) and Rascals’ founder Felix Cavaliere (Good Lovin’, Groovin’ and People Got to Be Free). McMaster covered some of their classics and wrote new music with these Rock and Roll and Songwriters’ Hall of Fame inductees.

Aside from covering some of the classic immortal chart-toppers written by Rascals founder Felix Cavaliere (“Good Lovin’,” “Groovin’,” and “People Got to Be Free”) and Motown sensation Lamont Dozier of Holland/Dozier/Holland (“Love Is Like A Heat Wave,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” and “You Can’t Hurry Love”) - both members of the Rock ‘N Roll and Songwriter Halls of Fame - McMaster co-wrote two songs with them for Icons of Soul, Vol. 1. McMaster and his songwriting partner, Arun Chaturvedi both spent time with Cavaliere and Dozier at their respective Nashville and Las Vegas homes during the process.

In addition to the album, Icons of Soul, Vol. 1, there will be a documentary of the same name (released in Spring 2019), featuring behind the scenes stories and interviews with these iconic artists while tracking the progress of the Icons of Soul project itself.

McMaster is best known for “Good Morning, Beautiful,” his 2013 Top 3 Billboard AC smash hit with new age pianist, Jim Brickman and his impressive Canadian gold album run as a duo with Rob James in McMaster & James, (“Thank You,” “Love Wins Everytime,”) with media often referring to them as the “Canadian Hall & Oates.”

When he turned solo in 2002, McMaster launched a more focused songwriting career and had songs placed on multi-platinum and gold albums by Rihanna, Nick Lachey, Nick Carter and Kalan Porter (7 million sales and counting). He also recorded a succession of EPs and albums (2008’s Time EP, 2013’s All Roads, 2014’s Heart of Soul and 2016’s Trending) that contained both originals and sensual interpretations of such favourites as Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours),” Roberta Flack’s “Feel Like Makin’ Love” and the Bee Gees “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.”

Which brings us full circle to Icons of Soul, Vol. 1 inspired in part by publishing giant Leeds Levy, president of Leeds Music, a director of ASCAP and a former president of Chrysalis Music Group and MCA Music Publishing (Elton John, Elvis Presley, OutKast) who planted the initial seed of the idea following a chance meeting with McMaster in Los Angeles.

Toronto, ON… Icons of Soul, Luke McMaster’s ambitious new project, offers a refreshing twist. Not only is Brandon, Manitoba-born purveyor of contemporary blue-eyed soul paying tribute to classic R&B songwriting legends on his upcoming fourth album: he’s recruiting them.

“I’m collaborating with legends like Lamont Dozier and Felix Cavaliere on some new originals,” says McMaster, the Toronto-based singer, songwriter and producer best known for “Good Morning, Beautiful,” his 2013 Top 3 Billboard AC smash with new age pianist Jim Brickman.

“And what’s especially cool about this project is that they’re still hungry: as much as I’m learning from these masters who wrote unforgettable hits that have formed the soulful soundtrack of my life, they’re equally excited to work with me and my songwriting partner Arun Chaturvedi to write something fresh.”

In addition to covering some of the classic immortal chart-toppers written by Rascals’ Cavaliere (“Good Lovin’,” “Groovin’,” “People Got to Be Free”) and Motown sensation Dozier of Holland/Dozier/Holland (“(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” “You Can’t Hurry Love”) – both members of the Rock ‘N Roll and Songwriter Halls of Fame -McMaster co-wrote two songs apiece with the prodigies at their respective Nashville and Las Vegas homes, capturing the occasions on camera for a corresponding Icons of Soul documentary series. Segments from the documentary will be screened as part of the live concert presentation, helping to bring the entire experience alive for McMaster’s concert audiences.

Felix Cavaliere), you’d better have the right gear!

So, we decided a quick trip to the famous Blackbird Audio was in order, and wow, speaking of the right gear!! Our goal: to rent the iconic U87 microphone (just had to do it). Countless producers have used the Neumann U87 to capture vocals, guitars, pianos, and all sorts of other instruments on some of the greatest songs in popular music since the 1950s. This is the same mic used to record Sam Cooke for instance, and it’s loved by artists around the world for its unique warmth and unparalleled quality. Plus, it just feels insanely cool when you sing into it ;)

Next thing you know, we're back in Felix's studio, we've got the U87 set up and we're chatting about some harmonies we're about to record. At this point, I'm thinking, “This is WILD. Felix is the King of blue eyed soul and truly one of my vocal heroes. Now I’m singing harmonies with him. Can somebody find me an Emoji of a head exploding??” no joke (you can probably see all this in my face)

Once we are seamlessly plugged in, we set to recording the vocal harmonies for Soul Love…and as promised, here’s a little taste for you...

The documentary sizzle reel is in editing and we’re on pins and needles waiting to see it and to share it with you!

More soon,

xox Luke
Luke McMastertag:www.lukemcmaster.com,2005:Post/51046322018-02-14T10:00:00-05:002021-10-17T15:20:12-04:00Lights, camera, action!
The ICONS OF SOUL project has truly become a labour of love for me so it seems appropriate to be launching the new page on Valentine’s Day.

As promised, I’m going to take you behind the scenes on this whole project and first up, we’re going to walk through Arun’s and my recent trip to Nashville where we filmed the sizzle reel for the ICONS OF SOUL documentary.

This is an ambitious project and one that involves a lot of creativity and passion for music. Which is why I was thrilled when we immediately hit it off with videographer/producer Chris St. Croix! Being a musician himself (perhaps no great surprise as he lives in Nashville), Chris totally gets what we're trying to achieve and we felt a lot of synergy on the set. We got Chris on the other side of the camera for just a couple of minutes.

Speaking of the set, we filmed the trailer at Felix Cavaliere’s home studio in Nashville. I’ve got to give a huge shout out to the King of Blue Eyed Soul for opening his home and his life up to us. Felix has been incredible to work with on all fronts. First of all, this Hall of Fame inductee is an incredible musician with a killer set of pipes - thankfully you’ll get to appreciate his offerings on a few of the ICONS OF SOUL tracks. Second, Felix Cavaliere is a complete gentleman and a pleasure to work with. And to top it off, he’s got the best stories - which I promise we’ll share with you over the course of these posts and in the documentary itself.

In my next post, I’ll include a short video clip of the recording session where we laid down harmonies on Soul Love with Felix. Happy Heart Day my friends! xoxLuke
Luke McMaster
